Our Centre Services

Centres are at the heart of the support provided by Headway Devon. Every week, at our seven adult centres across the county, people with brain injuries come together for rehabilitation.

We provide support and rehabilitation for adults with acquired brain injuries at locations in Exeter, Exmouth, Honiton, Crediton, Tiverton, West Devon, and South Devon. We also offer support for children affected by brain injuries at a centre in Exeter.

If you were to visit a Headway Devon centre on a typical day, you might find clients engaged in any number of activities. The emphasis is on re-learning lost  skills and developing new ones. Board games, art activities, and social interaction all help clients to reach these objectives.

Staff work with each client to decide what activities they will take part in and what aims they will work towards. These aims are entered onto individual  care plans and the client's progress is monitored at regular intervals. This means that client and staff alike can see the progress that is being made and  can make positive decisions about moving forward in the rehabilitation process.

As an example of an activity which has recently taken place at one of our centres, in Exeter, many clients took part in a print-making course which was provided by the Double Elephant Print Workshop and delivered in partnership with Headway Devon staff and volunteers. This was an opportunity for clients to discover new skills and work with people from outside Headway Devon.

The work that goes on at our centres is long-term, and progress for individual clients often takes years, not months. But this never stops clients and staff from looking forward to a bright future.
