Headway Devon calls on county's MPs to sign Early Day Motion in support of brain injury charity

Local brain injury charity Headway Devon has called on the county's MPs to support an early day motion celebrating the 30th anniversary of Headway UK.

Headway UK, the national organisation to which Headway Devon is affiliated, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Early Day Motion 1081, which has been tabled by Bob Russell MP, congratulates  Headway for "providing outstanding help and support to brain injury survivors and their families for the last 30 years".

It acknowledges the "vital role that the charity plays in helping to improve quality of life after brain injury" and notes that "half a million people live with the long-term effects of brain injury".

Headway Devon chief executive Anne Mattock said: "Thanks to organisations such as Headway UK and Headway Devon, great progress is being made in raising the profile of brain injury and raising the standard of care for those affected. However there is still much work to be done, and this Early Day Motion calls attention to that fact."

Headway Devon is urging Devon MPs to sign the EDM to show their support for local people with brain injuries. The charity has sent letters to Angela Browning, Hugo Swire, Geoffrey Cox, Adrian Sanders, Nick Harvey, Ben Bradshaw and Anthony Steen.

Early day motions are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. Although very few EDMs are debated in the House, they publicising the views of individual MPs, draw attention to specific events or campaigns, and demonstrate the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view.
