Fun for kids and support for parents, thanks to Headway Devon

Children's activity week: fun for Devon kids and support for their parents

A special week of activities for children with brain injuries also offered parents a chance to get together and share experiences.

Headway Devon's summer activity week for children including opportunities for youngsters to take part in bead and clay making, board games and cookery at a local youth centre.

Meanwhile their parents were offered the opportunity to meet others in similar situations and to enjoy relaxing massage and meditation sessions.

One parent told local newspaper the Express & Echo: "I've been involved with Headway since it opened up the new children's centre.

"The activity week is something we all really look forward to. The children love taking part and I get the chance to unwind.

"Caring is a 24-hour, 365-days-a-year job, so it is nice to have some peace and quiet, to relax and have a stress-free day."

Another said: "Being a carer can be very demanding. Children with a brain injury have a short attention span and can be quite loud - they can only cope with short bursts of activity.  I visit the centre every week and to have a break like this is very beneficial."

Headway Devon provides structured rehabilitation for children with brain injuries and support from their parents thanks to grants from BBC Children In Need and local foundations including the Northbrook Trust.
