Support for children with brain injuries

One-to-one Outreach

This one-to-one support service is available to children as well as adult clients. Outreach is a very flexible service because every child and every brain injury is different. In each session, the child and the worker will take part in activities to support the child to achieve their goals.

Children’s centre

Headway Devon’s Children’s Centre opened in October 2006. The centre is based in Exeter and now meets every Saturday, with 5-11-year-olds attending in the mornings and 12-16-year-olds in the afternoons.

Like our adult centres, the focus at our children’s centre is to help children to relearn lost skills and develop new ones in a supportive and sociable environment.

Support for parents and carers

As well as providing regular telephone support to parents, we also provide a space at our children’s centre for carers to meet and relax. We have found that many parents and carers find it very beneficial to meet others in a similar situation. Both our one-to-one Outreach service and our children’s centre also offer valuable respite opportunities to parents and carers, who often chose to take advantage of this freedom and take time out for themselves, carry out tasks such as shopping, or spend time with other family members.

How to access our services

If you think that Headway Devon might be able to help, it’s easy to refer a child to us. Our open referral system means that you don’t have to go through a social worker or health professional, simply complete one of our referral forms, available here, or call us on 01392 211822.
