Gearing up for Carers’ Week with Sainsbury’s
Carers’ Week will be taking place from 10th-16th June 2013 and Headway Devon, like many other charities, will be taking the opportunity to raise awareness of the vital role that carers perform in their local community.
When acquired brain injury strikes, its devastating impact is often felt by the whole family. Partners, children and parents can find themselves thrown into a caring role with little warning and time to prepare themselves for the challenges that this will bring. Our health and social care systems could not function without the invaluable contributions of these unpaid carers, so Headway Devon recognises the huge importance of providing support, respite and information to carers so that they feel empowered to fulfil this role to the best of their ability.
Thanks to the support of Exeter’s Alphington and Guildhall Sainsbury’s, Headway Devon will be taking to the streets on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th June respectively to provide information and promote the support available to local carers, as well as raising vital funds towards the work that we do with this important and often under-valued group.
We will be outside the Sainsbury’s stores with a range of leaflets and resources for people with brain injuries and their carers. Fundraising & Communications Manager, Holly Keatings says, “We are very grateful to Sainsbury’s for offering us this space during Carers’ Week. The area outside these busy stores will provide an excellent opportunity for us to raise awareness of the vital work that carers do in the local community and ensure that carers know about the support that is available to them.”
Carers’ Week is a national event to celebrate and recognise the contribution of the UK’s six million unpaid carers. To find out more visit their website at https://www.carersweek.org/
