Paddling and Pedalling from Edinburgh to Exmouth!
Over the past four weeks, intrepid fundraiser Alistair Cope has been cycling and canoeing his way from Edinburgh to Exmouth to raise money for three charities – Headway Devon, the Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education, and Blesma.
This unique challenge has become known as “papete” – paddle and pedal Edinburgh to Exmouth – and on Saturday 14th September, Alistair will be completing the last leg of his epic journey.
Having already travelled all the way from Edinburgh, on his final day Alistair will travel from Exeter Quay to Exmouth Strand, where Headway Devon will be waiting to help celebrate his success.
As well as stands from the supported charities, there will be stalls selling beautiful vintage wares, information from Travel Devon and stands from local businesses. The charities will also be running a raffle with prizes from many of our stall-holders, including a day’s bike hire for a family of four from Bikelands and tickets to an Exeter Chiefs game at Sandy Park.
For the more adventurous however, Alistair is also looking for some company and support on this final stretch. If you would like to join him by boat or by bike, he will be departing Exeter Quay by canoe at 10am on Saturday 14th September, arriving at Lympstone slipway at around 2.45pm. After a break at the Swan Inn in Lympstone, Alistair will depart by bike at 3pm to arrive in Exmouth at around 3.30pm. We will also be holding “cheer stations” at each of these three locations for anyone who would like to come along and help spur Alistair on to the finish line.
